a piece of my peace
a few weeks have past now without a new painting to post
i have been working on some commissions,
enjoying a long visit from my sister and her family,
and building panels for new oils
we will be leaving thursday evening
for a long cross country trek in the westy
(40 hours in 4 days)
my dad’s funeral is finally here
he was cremated shortly after his death on july 9th
i’m looking forward to having closure and seeing family
below is a glimpse of a small sacred space in my house
you can see a little picture of my dad and me
it is framed and sitting on top of a silver box that contains
sacred dirt from a recent pilgrimage to the Santuario de Chimayo
i’ve always LOVED little altars and religious statues
(even before i became a catholic)
they have such a presence and bring me peace

I wish the picture could show how the cove sits in the wall. It is just beautiful, and when I walked by it peace and love rushed over me.
It is a nice reminder of those who are in constant prayer and intercession for us. I hope to have one in my house someday.

I think your photos are some of the ones I like best. Maybe its because I’m a photographer? The art just makes more sense to me. You trap life on film and you realize how surreal it is, or how patterned it is, and it’s just so heavy because it happened in all physicality. I like your painting though because it is like reality filtered through your mind.

I have a little multi-religious corner. I want to remember people’s beliefs. Whole lifes have been shaped by them. It makes my room seem bright.
