displaced expectations

Saturday, October 28th, 2006

this watercolor has taken me forever
not that it was any harder than the others,
but time seems to have been moving so fast the past few weeks

my 5 year old niece was able to model for me
during her visit a few weeks ago
it has been 6 years since my daughter was 5
i almost forgot how much i love the proportions of this age

dogs are my daughter’s world
she’s been obsessed with drawing them since a very young age
just recently she got a new set of art markers
so her little dogs have a spark now

thought they might make you smile
they are about 1 1/2 inches tall in real life

a piece of my peace

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006

a few weeks have past now without a new painting to post
i have been working on some commissions,
enjoying a long visit from my sister and her family,
and building panels for new oils

we will be leaving thursday evening
for a long cross country trek in the westy
(40 hours in 4 days)
my dad’s funeral is finally here
he was cremated shortly after his death on july 9th
i’m looking forward to having closure and seeing family

below is a glimpse of a small sacred space in my house
you can see a little picture of my dad and me
it is framed and sitting on top of a silver box that contains
sacred dirt from a recent pilgrimage to the Santuario de Chimayo
i’ve always LOVED little altars and religious statues
(even before i became a catholic)
they have such a presence and bring me peace
