Here are two new pieces for my duo show in Santa Fe, NM at GF Contemporary next month. There are 5 paintings in total for this show. You can see all of the works here. The models for these new pieces are from Santa Fe. These paintings are also experimental pieces. I used grounds and washes on the clay surface to see what effects I could produce. Hope you like them!

Erica modeled for me back in 2007 when she was still in high school. It has been a great experience meeting up with her again as she has just graduated from college in 2012. These new paintings of her will be included in a show at GF Contemporary in June, 2013. Here are some thoughts that I wrote down about the current group of paintings that I am doing for that show:
I lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico from 2001 to 2007. In reflecting on my time there, I see that these years were years of great inspiration and personal growth for me. I’ve created five new works using models from Santa Fe. These are models that I painted six years ago. In painting these young women in their current state I’m able to see how they have changed or how their circumstances have changed in six years time. The older works create a reference point for the new works. Growth happens slowly, but when looking back it’s easy to see how life unfolds and changes. The experience of painting them again in their recent life reassures me that we are on a journey. Not only have these young women changed in physical ways, but also in interior ways. Not only has my work changed in physical ways, but also in interior ways. It reminds me that we each have a story to tell in the way that we live our lives.
